Spanish cinema academy has bestowed honorary title upon Iran Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi. 

Twice Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Asghar Farhadi has been named honorary patron of the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.

Spanish film director Mariano Barroso said during the official announcement, "It is an honor for us to have an artist like him [Farhadi] in Spanish cinema."

The event took place in the presence of Farhadi who traveled to Madrid to introduce his latest work 'Everybody Knows' to Spanish cinema professionals.  

Farhadi noted in his speech that he did not expect it coming and it has made him feel being part of the family of Spain cinema.

Iran great director won his first Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film with 'A Separation' in 2012.

In 2017, 'The Salesman' brought him the second Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Farhadi’s latest film 'Everybody Knows' starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz premiered at 2018 edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Founded in 1986, Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AACCE) is a Spanish professional organization dedicated to the promotion and development of Spanish cinema.
